When I get in my car and start off its all good, then it comes to shifting into second gear… I almost need two hands to get the thing into gear, then on top of that half way there I hear this little (but painful) crunch *ouch*. Third gear is the same…, and forth. It all seams to clean up after I have been driving long enough but for those first 20 shifts (up and down) all I feel is pain. So pretty much I’m guessing its dead (or dying) but I was kinda hoping there could be some other reasons for it? I’m changing the gearbox oil in a day or so, 75W 80 I was recommended, sound good?
Thanks all,
- alan.

maybe try adding some kind of oil treatment as well.. You can get some Nulon stuff that's a teflon additive, or the Ultraglide that http://www.uniqueautosports.com.au sells is supposed to be good.

the s13s have a pretty short set of gears down low, plenty of silvias i have been in all have the very stiff 2nd gear change up from 1st, thats also coz 1st gears so fu$^in short, your revs are high enough to make the change stiffer when your taking off in most situations.... my advice is don't force it, do use the additive andrew(dumhed) recommended, and tell me what happens!

Well, it's not so much that first is short, just that second is damn tall! Mine pulls about 60 in first (which is pretty high) and about 110 in second... It's a bit jump.

GOOD NEWS
~~~~~~~~~
I bought 2L of gear oil along with that Nulon treatment [which i picked up from my local autobarn] came to approx. $30. Got my Mechanic to put it all in for $10 [i know, lazy!!] he said give it a week to work its way into all the joints and bolts etc before i expect anything... but already first morning out in the cold the shift into second gear was as easy as cutting cake. Its wonderful :smile: - i give it 10 stars for 40 dollars.
that is good to hear :>
hey snipes, I worked it out. Yours has been converted from an auto, so it has the shorter auto diff. Good for off the mark acceleration though :smile:
