Since seeing an ad in Supercheap for a 12volt air compressor (160psi) for $99. Ive been thinking that maybe I could hook it up to release the air into intake manifold by way of a switch that is triggered when the accel is floored.
What are other peoples thoughts on this idea?
Is it viable? Being NA sarks and I think I may be getting desperate but then again it just might work!

The problem is the massive amount of air an engine sucks at full power.. You'd need to have a massive air tank pumped up to high pressure and some kind of one way valve in the intake, before the airflow sensor. Sounds like the quickest way ever to destroy an engine though, coz you can't really regulate the pressure at all, and the engine won't be tuned for it.

the only advantage you MIGHT get is eliminating some negative boost in the intake but i highly doubt youll get a result any better than designing and making your own really good intake.

any pressure it builds up inside the intake will simply flow back out the air filter. (if it is capable of flowing that much which i also doubt)

and youll take on a cool 30kg.

Fair enough.
Oh well I guess Its back to the drawing board for me!
Maybe a way to hook it up so it sends fuel as well as air?
Modified ECU to cope with differences?
Oh and Im certain there are plenty of ways to regulate the output from a compressor.

yeah, but a compressor makes very little actual flow. If you disconnect the wastegate actuator hose from a turbo it blows out air like a decent compressor, but it's doing that much pressure through the whole 2" outlet pipe! A hell of a lot more air than any compressor is going to make! You could just bolt on a standard T25 turbo and manifold and set the boost really low (like 4 - 5psi) and everything should just work.. It'd make a lot more difference too, and wouldn't really cost any more.
I was looking into doing a basic electric supercharger setup, but even using second hand bits and building it all myself it would cost more than the turbo option, and give 0.5psi of boost at the most.. And the turbo would just bolt straight on.

if you dont wanna turbo it, investigate a blower. a 4AGZE one will give it a kick for relatively cheap.

Apparently the bigger Supercharger unit off of the 6 cyl toyota (S14 model as opposed to the S12 off the 4AGZE) is a better unit. Although I'm yet to find one. And I'd say it would cost alot more too.
Either way, would it be hard to add it?
I suppose it would go in place of the Air Con with a custom bracket. What else would one need to do?

make custom brackets / flanges for the pipes and stuff...

Japanese Motor Sport has various superchargers for about $350...
the 6 cyl Toyota one is probably better, but it depends on how much boost you're going to run.
If you don't do any internal mods - like at least lowering the compression, then a big supercharger is not really necessary.
