Just wondering what sort of suspension set up you guys have found works well (specifically the s14, but s13/s15 I guess is similar). Have been looking around, and to get my car to handle looks like I won't be seeing much change from 3 grand  any cheap changes that make a difference? (bog stock set up at moment)

Front strut brace - $90 or so from Sam's Auto One in Parramatta (96332899) - really helps the front end feel, and noticeably stiffens the front of the car. Rear strut brace - doesn't seem to do much :> Coil Overs - I payed about $1200 all up, installed, from Unique Auto Sports. Makes a big difference, and you can adjust the ride height, but it's bumpy as all hell 
Apparently upgrading the anti roll / sway bars is a good idea. I haven't done this, but it should make a big difference without compromising ride quality much at all. I know Whiteline do kits, and probably several others do as well. That "not much change from 3 grand thing" was based on Whiteline pricing... Strut bar across the tops of the 2 suspension towers are pretty affordable, maybe they are the go... URM, do they need much fiddling (have seen adjustable and non-adjustable)? tyres= Yoko A539's. I reckon they are unreal. but was reading on performance forums that they are a bit dodgy. and I guess I am only comparing the benefit of the tyres to my old S12, and the tyres that were originally on my car (the el-cheapo "performance" v grooves that previous owner put on). <font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: UNF41R on 2002-03-27 16:52 ]</font> |

If you buy one that doesn't fit like I did first it's a fiddle! If you get the Sam's one it goes on in a few minutes, and it's adjustable. You can screw the end mounts in and out to change the length... Basically you just undo the nuts on top of the strut towers, stick the bar on, and do them up again... It's not going to make a huge difference to the handling though - more the feel of the car, but I'd say it's definately worth the money. The grippiest tyres I've seen in use are Falken Azenis. They'll be well under $200 each, and they stick like anything, but won't last long. I'll be getting a set as soon as I can wear out the damn Bridgestones I've got (not that they're too bad, but I want more, and they refuse to wear out!) <font size=-1>[ This Message was edited by: DumHed on 2002-03-27 16:56 ]</font> |

I have the front strut brace from Sams Auto One, its actually for a S14 200sx but fits nicely, takes about 5 mins (if that) to install. One word of warning, if you have a CA18 then it will sit VERY close to your EFI, mine rubs occasionally in reverse would need a spacer if I wasn't getting a SR20DET put it. Dumhed, can you email me (mayhem@silviansw.com) more information about the suspension kit, cause I want to get mine done after the new motor goes in and $1200 is VERY decent price, just have to get my new wheels so I can make the car sit on the floor pan

Nah I am putting a S14 motor into my car VERY soon. |

hehehe damn straight. need to do another engine swap on this one. CA will be cheaper than the black-top SR at least as is running a Ser2 motor in this car (Ser1), after i made a mess of the last one. whoops

The thing that makes the biggest improvement in handling for the lowest cost is anti-sway bars. Should be able to get fount and rear sways fitted for around $400 or so... This should be the first thing you should consider. Following up with lowering (mainly for the looks) with good quality shocks, eg koni, kyb etc |
