Hey guys, a brief list of what's been done to the car, HD clutch, turbo back exhaust, pod and stock BOV.

Recently had my defi boost gauge installed onto my s15 and my oh my does it come with a whole bag of goodies. Namely, peak boost function and the ability to record what happens over 3 minutes

Anyway, after i worked out how to use the record function i decided to give the car a solid run in 2nd. I hit pretty much just before fuel cut and slowed the car down to play back what just happened. Normal increase in boost where i expected it to max out at about .7 bar, turns out it actually creeps up to .9 bar! I'm thinking this is way higher that expected considering the mods, the only thing i can think of is that my boost restrictor has been removed however i'm pretty sure it's still there.

Even in that case (i.e. removed boost restrictor) would you guys find that level of boost normal?

yeah dude thats pretty high for what youve got listed- at least get a front mount and fuel pump before getting that close to 1 bar imho
get a boost controller

thing is, there's nothing i've really done to make the boost run higher except for the exhaust, just trying to work out why it's peaking that high

but yes, FMIC is on the cards as the next mod followed by an EBC

removing the restrictor causes boost spikes, probably thats what you are experiencing

What exactly does a boost spike look like when reading off a boost gauge?

As the name implies, I'd imagine it would be a sudden increase as opposed to a gradual one (which is what im seeing)

yes a sudden increase in boost but then it settles back to its 'normal' setting

right, figured that much

mine has a steady increase to 0.9, by which time i'm just about to shift and only then does it drop

might have to chuck her up on a dyno

It's crazy what the cold can do EVILS15, my car most of the time is at 10-12 psi but the other nite out near wisemans my car was running about 16 psi and that was a cold, cold nite :D , Could'nt even touch the cold side of my FMIC pipes it was that cold after the run.

boost spiking that high is normal if you took the revs that far up, boost will creep up under so much pressure and def the cold will help but if the ristrictor was taken out there isn't anything to control the boost so it would spike way past its safe point everytime u put your foot down so its def not that if its only going to 11psi it was the case for me when i was hitting 25psi and it was set at 12psi but yeah an EBC will be the answer

yeah i'm getting 0.9bar as well on the good ol' defi; all i have is a turbo back exhaust and the restrictor is definately still in there; everything else is stock.

just noticed something when I read the original post again.. you mentioned you did the test in 2nd gear. Have you tried doing a run on 3rd or 4th gear?

My experience is that the car seem to get more prone to boost spike in 1st, 2nd gear than in 3rd and 4th.

ok i can confirm my restrictor is still there, im not spiking - it's more of a creeping as there's no sudden jump from the needle

that's right i did it 2nd but trying to redline in 3rd and 4th would send me way above most speed limits
