hey this is bit of a newbie question, in after a s13 and im trying to decied on what engine to get it with?
ca18 or sr20 i was sure i wanted a sr20 up until a few weeks ago when i was told that a ca18 would be better to modify coz its got stronger internals..i was told this is why "DEXTER" chose a ca18
is this true?
does it scarefice any ponies?? and is it worth it...
also does anyone know of any other good importers than j-spec which advertise the results from previous autions? one that is trust worth and good...
thanx

as far as I know, the internals of both engines are cast.
i could be wrong though. and it all depends what you mean by "better to modify"
if youre wanting to run the kinds of pressure to start worrying about internals on EITHER motor, forged pistons etc are inevitable and ROUGHLY the same cost. but when youve got that kind of money it hardly matters.
If youre just thinking of upping the boost, and all the other bolt on mods...... SR20T
simply because you start with more horses from an extra 200cc and is likely to have done less K's
I dont think nissan would phase out a motor and replace it with a weaker one.

heh, funny you should say that... that's what most manufacturers did in the mid 70's- early 80's. For example, the only ford windsor v8 with 4 bolt mains wat the boss 302 from 69/70... also, things like solid lifter cams, forged pistons and steel cranks disappeared for a decade or so cos there was need for them in the crappy output motors from that period.

The CA is a cast iron block and yes it is a bit stronger. But the SR is more reliable (mainly due to the age factor) and also gererally will respond to simple mods better.

As for Dexter, from what I've read his car was already pretty modded before it even hit aussie shores, so thats probably more the reason why he bought it over an SR.
