my bad... i was actually comparing it to the z32 box which i was talking about in my previous post before you posted.

The z32 box is a touch stronger than the r33 box, and abit cheaper also, so it seems.

I wouldnt use the z33's 6 speed box though, it'd cost more than my whole car.

Internally the Z32 box is almost identical to the SR20DET box so the RB25 box is a better/stronger unit.

However if you have ever looked at a Z32 box you would realise that the amount of work to get one working in a silvia chassis is bordering on stupid.
They use a remote shifter that would require the tunnel from the Z to be grafted in or custom linkages to be fabricated to mate with the rear mounted shifter setup. The box mount is also a full 6 inches off the silvia mount holes. The clutch slave cylinder is on the opposite side of the box. So to is the starter motor. This pretty much makes it a no go for the VQ series engines

Now the Z33 VQ35 6 speed uses the exact same shifter setup as the Z32 making it the same deal when fitting it into the silvia.
And the V35 is the same deal rear mounted/remote shifter.

The Z33/V35 box is an item that is basicly moulded off the S15's equally crap design. The only real problem they have is the gear retaining, where snap rings tend to get forced out of their grooves and allow the gears to float to the point where they break.
Im personally suprised nissan didn't fix what is a very obvious flaw.
As a lot of S15 owners would know they generally are very noisy as well.
Something the Z33's are also starting to do.

VQ30 DET diagrams are very thin on the ground, unless you happen to know someone with them BHDave

One choice which you haven't seemed to consider yet it is the mot logical is the RB26DETT??

You have no chance in hell.
They use a few different "signal" wires from the ECU to dash plug. And also the CAN communication lines get difficult as well. For insatance in the Y33 the speed sensor runs to the TCM and then the TCM sends a different signal along a shared line to the ECU. The speed sensir has no direct link to the ECU. The TCM is sharing the info with the ECU, ABS, VDC and evey other control module.

Its a case of saving messy wiring. Instead of the speed sensor running to every module it now only runs to one and that one shares the info along with all the other info via two wires a red and blue in nissans case.

You could always put a GM Gen 3 in it... lots of people in the US have.
(has crossed my mind)

I persoanlly can't see any point going from the nissan family of engines.
You have a great selection of fours and sixes, if you must have a V8 then there is one of them too.

The ammount of stuffing around and extra costs to put a "foregin" engine into the nissan is just not worth it.

My oppinion anyways.

There's an r33 having a gen 3 dropped in it atm and another one that has been running around with a VQ45 for about 18 months now which is in the process of having a centrifugal supercharger added.

Unfortunately the VQ powered one is an auto :(

Yes it is true Nissan make some fine four and sixes but only a small block sounds like a small block...

You know what I think would be worth giving a go while we are speculating about power plants.

I would like to put in a V4 Chev like they use in sprint cars etc. Think about it you could get

easy 3 litres
short block so the weight would be set back towards the firewall
Strong engine capable of supercharging or turbocharging
Torque of the V configuration
Sound of a V engine (if twin system fitted)
Plenty of room up front for intercooler etc.
HiPo parts available
Light weight

Only problem is I have googled like crazy but cant seem to find anyone who sells the bits.

Have u guys seen Serious Performance 6 ?
The GTiR SR20DET has been put in a Bluebird RWD. He uses it for race/rally and to promote his shop.

I think the work shop is called "Smart Engine Conversions" :) or something like that and they are located in QLD.
