more than likely, one is constant power (batter backup) and the other is ignition power (+12v when the ignition is on)

ground is there in the standard harness, infact, all those wires are there. you will need a multimeter before you go cutting and splicing/joining. that is unless you know the colours of the stock wires and what they do

firstly, what brand is the head unit, and what car is it going into?

hey thanks alot for replying...

its a boss cd player to go into a 180...
what do u mean about the ground wire?
also is there a specific ground wire that i need to connect to or am i able to just connect the ground wire to some bare metal?

also with a multimeter what will the readings from the 2 power sources be?

ive already passionfingered the installation by fusing the interior lights and clock....just fixed that up so im not sure bout the next step.....im prolly not qualified to instal audio equip...

anyways thanks for ur help

3 things to get your deck on...constant power, ignition and earth

constant power: find this by having the ignition in off and looking for a 12v constant supply on a wire with your multimeter

ignition: put key in ignition, as in turned to the 'ignition' position, then look for another 12v supply, then when found switch key to off and make sure the voltage drops to zero, thats your ignition

earth: grab a multimeter and put it into continuaty (or how ever its spelt!), put one lead on an earth you are sure about, then with the other one test the wires there until you hear the continuaty buzz, thats your earth, or you can just earth to metal or chassis, and you can test them the same way...

i suggest getting someone else to install it. no offence, but the last thing you want to do is complicate matters more and do some unnessary damage to your car.

either take it to a reputable company, or someone here can do it. i could this weekend depending on where you lived, or you could bring it to me i dun mind

I'm about to rip out my cd player and tidy up a few wires. I might host a DIY for installation if I can remember. I'll also note down the colour of wires for future referencing too.

hey guys i was wonderign if anyone could help me out with my head unit..

i had this post goin a while ago but the deck is still not in :o

basically my major problem is getting the deck on....

does 12V constant supply from the car go to the battery wire on the deck, or does it power(+), on the deck

not sure if that makes sense

any help will be appreciated

thanks
