I want to swap the rear speakers (6 x 4in) to a new pair (preferrably 6in) but keep getting stuck in trying to remove the old speaker. Due to the hatch shape of the rear, the gap between the speaker and the glass is too narrow to get a screwdriver in there to unscrew the speaker (and the holder thing its attached to)

Has anyone done this before? And if they have, how do you get them out without causing damage to the car, as this is what I'm afraid of doing.

Cheers

Jay

I used like a shifter* with an attachment to get to the rear speaker screws, kinda scratched my window a TINY bit tho..grr ..

*note: not very good with tool names, might be called something else.. I call it a shifter tho =P

Redline: I think your thinking of a ratchet. Try a ratchet or a universal handle with a short extension bar. Its still a pain in the ass to do though.

Hold on, cant you remove the parcel shelf and remove the speakers out of the car? Im not sure if you can do that with 180sx's though. :-?

Nah, in the 180's the rear speakers are located not on the parcel shelf but on either side of it, next to the rear windows.

Ill try using a ratchet, but the main priority is to not scratch the glass! :D

Has anyone else removed the speakers (rear) on a 180SX? I NEED HELP! :D

If it ends up being too hard I'll just put 6" on the rear parcel tray instead.

I have a couple of right angle screwdrivers somewhere, which are good for getting speakers out..

Has anyone replaced their rear speakers in their 180SX with 6"?

If so did you have to do any mods or did they just fit straight in?

I did a similar job in my Prelude 94 VTi-R. There was practically no room between the speakers and the rear window. I used a right angle screw driver...
Took a while but it got the job done.

By the way.. the back of the Prelude had only 4inch shitty speakers, i ended up putting 6x9's in but cutting some of the back shelf around the speaker holes. (spacers were out of the question obviously)

Not 100% iff this is the same as the 180, might help a bit ;)
