For shits and giggles, I got some insurance quotes today for a stock standard examples of the following vehicles.

I set the Drivers age at 20 (I'm 19, but I plan to buy one of these cars when I'm 20), and my postcode is 2090.

All cars were listed as 'stock standard' for the quotes:

1992 R32 GT-R: $2980/year [agreed value of $22000]
2001 ADM S15: $3890 [agreed value of $20000]
1997 180SX Type-X: $2700 [agreed value of $15000]

Now, I haven't had any licence suspensions, any accidents, or any claims at all. Do you believe these prices are reasonably high? Or, are you paying similar amounts or more?

Cheers,
Pete

dude that is similar to what I was quoted for a SR20det 180sx, and im 26, havent had any (reported) accidents, 60% no claim bonus, but I lost my licence last year for speeding.

moral of the story: lose your licence for speeding and get treated like your 19 by the insurance companies.

Slightly high but nothing stupid. I'm 31 with 60% ncb and i still pay 1600 for a 12k gtst with pretty much all the mod boxes ticked. tops hey. I'm basically hoping there is something left to buy back if it every does get stolen or crashed as 12k won't cover 1/2 of the parts value, let alone a replacement car of the same level of modification.

Add another 300-600 to your prices if the car is under finance too btw. Get a personal loan if you can.

For anyone who had their car under finance but has paid it off make sure you ring up your insurer and tell them. Your premium will drop by alot. Mine dropped by 300 just on that.

Hmm, I'm thinking of giving Shannons a call... Any issues with their claims process at all?

I'm with Just Criminals now, I hate them.

I'm running a claim through Shannons ATM and they have approved everything, and thats with all new parts.
Couldn't ask for better service and they are well regarded by panel shops as well :) :)

they were alot better than my experience with just cars (that was horrible)

anyways it just took a while in the end cause they had to get an investigator involved but it was all good

I've been quoted $1200 for a Type X on full comprehensive, with the car valued at 17k (though that's because i opted for the "Higher Excess" option, where the excess is something around $2600 or so).

I'm 22, Full NCB, and that also covers the large list of modications to the vehicle. Though when i was 20 with almost full NCB w/my S14a, barely any mods done, i was covered for 14.5k, i was paying $3400 for full comp. so go figure =)

forget about justCars mate, they are rip off.

I guess the only options are:
Shannons. Not sure how good they are as they didn't want to insure me - I live too close to city

Famous. I was insured with them, but had to switch since they didn't want to insur my jap spec s15 for more than 21k

Vigil. I'm currently insured with them. Cannot say if they are good or bad as I haven't ever made a claim, but the car is insured for 24k, unlimited mods.

I haven't tried Vigil before, Shannons wont insure me because my car isn't going to be garaged at all times, and i didn't bother with famous. Thus, im with JustCar, ripoff fookers, but i've had some good help from them in the past.

I used to be with Vigil for my old Onevia. It was $800 a year for full comprehensive, unlimited mods. Then they sent a letter saying that they were no longer insuring grey imports. To get only third party with Just Criminals was MORE than comprehensive was with Vigil.

:(

I'm with justcar. My policy costs about $1500 a year and I got a 60% ncb even though this is the first time I've had full comp (i'm 28 and have been driving for 9 years).
My s13 is insured for $12k and I doubt it would really be worth more than $10k so I'm happy with that.
I've only made one claim so far for an accident that wasn't my fault. I found most repairers will NOT do justcar jobs :( Annoying because it meant that I HAD to go to their preferred repairer (bit of a scam in my opinion). But, they did a good job repairing the damage and the repairer was close to my home so I'm not overly fussed.

That said, I think I'll check out Shannons once my policy with Justcar is up
