Hi guys,
Have just bought a cd\navigation head unit. A BLAUPUNKT TravelPilot DX-R52. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&item=140038863045&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1

It doesnt come with a navigation disc. My question is are all navigation disc's generic to your city? or is it specific to the model/brand of the unit.

Any feedback would be appreciated cos If i cant get the disc or if its gonna cost me an arm and a leg, Im not gonna go through with the sale.

The seller stated the disc was sold separately but when I told him i'd like to buy the disc also he told me he didnt have one or know where to get one. How dodgy LOL

My guess would be its specific to the model/brand.

I got my navman ICN320 for $399 and it works great.

$399? Where from? I might just buy a Navman instead because I have a feeling this unit is gonna cost me a bit more and might not even work. So far all the reviews ive seen on it, even on australian sites describe it for use in europe and UK only :(

there are a few major different formats of NAV maps for GPS systems. i looked into them a while ago when i was looking for one for my ex-toyota GPS screen.

anyway, as mentioned, you will probably need to find one for the blaupunkt models. i think BMWs use a blaupunkt system so maybe borrow a disc and try it. i dont think they would change the disc formats so maybe find any type of car that uses that brand and try a disc at the dealer. im sure they would be happy to sell you a disc as roads are updated every year so people would need to update
