Insurance usually goes on the youngest driver anyway so i dont think it would matter who was insuring it, if you were going to drive it...

I don't think a lot of people understand the concept of insuring their cars in their parents name.

You still need to let the insurance company know that you are driving it. It common sense.

I dunno if fire and theft is really worth the extra premium, i got a quote for my last car, $550 for third party, $780 for f&theft...excess was like $2600 or something rediculois with all the under 25 extras, and turbo car extras, and stolen car extras...then u get $5000 for the trouble...so only really get $2400 in the end, yes its money if u have an accident or get ur car stolen but its not really much in the end...

Thanks people....

NRMA wanted $3978 for my dad as the owner and only driver, but any over 25 could drive it... that is why I put it in his name.

As im over 25 under most policies I can drive it and pay an extra excess even though im not nominated on the policy. But got it insured with exhaust as only mod for $950 for $15,000 value through my broker with myself and my shocking record on the policy.

Just Cars were painful so were vigil, thank god for my uncle who is my broker YAY !!!

Vigil... They've lost my details 3 times, and when they finally logged them and all, they wouldn't insure my car.

i got confused with it all as well but the way i understand it to work is this:

im under 25, and hence following the same train of thought i decided to put it under my mums name for cheap comprehensive. that was all fine but then they called my mum one day and informed her that if anything happened with an under 25 driver behind the wheel, we're not covered one bit! i thought it was just an excess that had to be paid also but thats only if the youngest driver is listed, and being an under 25 year old 200sx driver, im not covered at all by this large insurance company... so we've just decided to let the policy run through for the sake of theft and then decide on a course of action when its time to renew...

Also, this happened to my mate not too long ago...
he bought a 180, and it was the pride and joy of his life. but he only had it under 3rd party... so one night, it got stolen from outside his house in balmain and was found later totalled in a church. some 16 year old c$%@ stole it and went for a joy ride and put it through the wall of a church... he only got 5k out of it (fire and theft) and he'd just finished paying off the loan like the week before! he took the kid to court but didnt end up getting much out of him so lets just say that muther f#@$er has wat he deserves coming to him...

Moral of the story: get comprehensive no matter what. its not worth it unless your loaded.
