Hi all,
all four stock speakers in my 180 are completely smashed, and i want ones that arent..

Im able to put front speakers in with no worries (same deal as my last silvia), but the rear speakers are a different kettle of fish; I dont want to cut holes in my parcel shelf, and am only interested in putting speakers in the factory locations.

What size speakers can be fitted in the factory locations at the rear of the 180?

Im using an MDF board with 6" speakers at the front for the moment (easy as pie to do), then will replace them with splits when I get money.

The rear looks too difficult to put an MDF adapter in, and the size of the factory spot looks too tight to fit a 6" round (and thus 6x9 etc).
I might have to source a pair of 4x6" speakers for rear fill if thats the case

You only real options are the 6x4 or 4in with mdf plates. Thats ample for rears anyway. You should be using your fronts for 75% of the sound

I have seen 5 X 7's fit with the rigth amount of swearing involved....

Best option is as mentioned, 4 X 6, or 4's, I had 4's in my car, and although adequite for it's purpose, I would suggest the 4 X 6's for that slightly better quality sound fill.

You can push the larger speakers a little harder before they give up and distort.

ok no worries, thanks for that.

Any ideas where you can get 4x6" speakers of a decent quality these days? I havent seen them in my travels.

Ill probably end up fullsiking the 180;
- front; high quality splits
- rear; half decent 4x6" for rear fill
- then a sub or two

sik!

for the time being, i'd say leave the rears, use that money to get the splits up front and then just fade more to the front. next get your sub setup, once that is all done, then look into getting rears if you still want them.

Id be better off taking out the rears and having nothing at the moment - the rubber bit that holds the cone to the frame has completely perished on all four stock speakers, so all thats holding the cone in is the magnet..

Ive got two sony 6" crappy speakers here which can fit in the front (making the mdf plates now), so im after something for the rear just so theres SOMETHING in the rear.

I cant really save up for good splits yet, as ive just lost one of my jobs, so im only a pizzaboy now (only just earning enough to pay loan repayments, thats it). Bugger eh?

Mark: Ill have to copy your system, then add one more sub to make it even sikker bro! hektic uleh!

fair enough... what about just saving the money from the rears then? if you get those sonys in the front and fade forward, you should draw enough of the power outta them, that you could use the rears for the moment at least? Just thinking, if you dont want them down the track, why bother buying them?

does your HU has HP filters?

i was thinking more along the lines of rockford fosgate 6.5" splits - had a set in the ol' silvia and they rocked

Ill add them to the wish list tho i guess.. petrol to get to work is hard enough at the moment

No idea :P

Its an Alpine CDA-9835 (last years model) with all the bells n whistles, so it would probably have them, but i havent payed any attention to it.

I think all the stock speakers are too far gone to leave in there at all, but ill see how it goes when i bias the sound 80% to the front.

You know its bad when you have to put in SONY speakers to get better sound quality!

well if the HU has HP filters, which I think it does... take the time to find them, and HP the speakers, you'll lose the bass, but it will stop them from distorting so much.
