Okay so my extent of stereo knowledge is ripping them out so im in strife.

Basicly I want to put an Amp and sub into the J31 I have, however the stereo is a part of the the CPU (central processing unit) and it has no RCA out to run the the amp. and changing it to an after market item is out of the question.

Now can I buy some sort of magic box thing that I can run one of the speaker cables into to convert it to an RCA output??

May sound far fetched but I know shit all about stereos so though Id ask before going to a shop and asking (come to think of it I have never really been into a car audio shop  )

you need a line level converter. ie speaker level in, RCA out.

or get an amp with speaker level inputs.

jaycar sells the converters, but i think they have 2 models. get the more expensive one, its more sheilded

the other option is that, most amps will have high-level inputs, which allow you to connect speaker wire from the hu straight into the amp, it will then get the source it needs.

Its true!!
I mean If I wanted to I could install a CD player and speakers but why the hell would I have wanted that in the sil, I never even changed the CD player the old one kinda worked if I ever turned it on.
Its no more though, got cut out along with the speakers and everything else.
I should sell the speakers they look like really good pioneer ones :P

Another stupid question, If I taped into the rear parcel shelf speakers and run then into this line level thing to give the amp a signal will it effect the speaker or the main unit in anyway??

The short answer is that it shouldn't noticeably affect them.

The long answer gets more involved. I don't think you want to know :P

or run all the rear channels from the amp. just turn the gain down for your stock speakers if its possible

Depends how many speakers you want to run brad. If say you have 4 speakers (2 on the front and 2 on the back).

If you want all your speakers to be run off the amp then your probably better off with having all 4 speaker signals going into the amp.

If you only want the signal to run say a sub using the amp then ya, getting the signal from the parcel shelf speakers will be fine.

Most amps should have a high level input. Which means you just plug your speaker cable straight in, rather than rca.

screw running the speakers off the amp Thats far to much work :o
It sounds okay now but I have this stuff laying around from another car so might as well use it.

The amp seems to have a plug with HI L-----R writen over it, sounds like the high input you speak of. Only thing is it needs a little 4 pin plug that I don't have. Might just butcher something up to fit, it looks much like an alarm module sort of plug.

Probably Jaycar. Post a photo or 2 so we can see what kind of plug it is.
