I am going to design a 28 cubic litre sub box for 180sx and I was wondering where would be the best position in the boot and which way should I face it? It is a 12" JL dual voice coil sub.
Also does anyone have any box designs that would suit 180sx?
Thanks

I don't know about boxes but I think the idea in any hatch is to face the output into the rear to increase loading. Have seen old tests in Hot 4's that tested different positions and they gained a few dB from facing backwards.

Iv always found that facing the sub towards the back, and the magnet side towards the front of the car is HEAPS better.... Most of the bass pounds from the ass of the sub when its in a box.

Iv tried placing my 2 12inch subs facing the seat and it was shiaaat... almost like it was delayed or missing beats..

Anywaysss.. go all out and good luck wif the system ;)

Has anyone actually experimented with sub positioning in a 180?
Like backwards, upwards etc
What were your results?

i got a custom fibreglass box made up in my 180 - cost $500 for it to be made + fitted. they do an awesome job. it becomes like part of your boot!

apparently putting the sub in the rear left hand coner , facing the driver is the best place to put it so the sound can travel foward. putting subs facing up is crap, becasue they just bounce off the rear of the hatch (the glass) and back down. 2nd best place is the left had side again, with and angle facing the back. sound hits the back and then bounces foward towards the driver. this is where my sub is, becasue it was too big for the 1st position (the hatch couldnt close on the 180)

facing the sub sideways is no good also, sound is just hitting the side walls. i read this in a magazine somewhere, i try find it, and no it wasnt hot 4's it was some audipphile magazine.

Give this program a go.

I think the help file goes into rear loading and how to account for it with your box design.

Hope this helps.

DeLuxe.

ive got a 13 in sub in the corner in a custom fg box

if u put it towards the back of the boot [under the parcel tray] you will need to make some sort of custom parcel tray

if you put it towards the front of the boot [towards the back edge of the car] the hatch wont close

its fucking awesome

make sure you get sound deadening in your boot, and your doors.

then try to find any rattles, say from your number plates etc. and try to eliminate them somehow

it makes your stereo sound 1000000x better!
