Its the lack of a BOV or a really tight BOV that gives you the flutter.
Has nothing to do with wastegate.
In normal operation the BOV should open when you take your foot off the go pedal, as the throttle body is getting snapped shut but you turbo is still spooling, so that pressure has nowhere to go but backwards.
It should be vented by your BOV either out to atmosphere(pshhhht sound) or plumbed back( no sound).
If you have no BOV or a really tight one that did not open, that pressurised air bounces back towards you turbo, and its this air that causes the flutter.
There is much debate if this is good/bad/harmless for your turbo.

Think you're right about there being "flutter type" BOVs, alot of people like the noise, but i guess this offers a turbo-safe alternative..

You also see on some bov's depending on spring tension, that they'll let off the pshh or even if plumb back a silent note then make a small flutter, you generally never lose the whole flutter it's usually still there somewhere.

i have a HKS SSQV bov, and it does flutter at low boost, but at high boost it vents off quite loud "chuu" type sound..

The loud fluttering that you hear that last quite a while is the lack of a bov..

Don't the super sequentials "squeak" as such? A very high pitched sound?

I don't get much flutter at all, only at very low boost and when i let my foot off very slowly. Mine "Pssssshhhhhhhttttttt!!!!!!!!"'s alot, and quite loudly :D It's one of the better BOV's I've ever heard. I get more flutter since modding in the intake, which would be due to the fact that their is no no sound insulation....

you can also get the bov to flutter if you don't allow the car to come fully on to boost. I have a turbosmart supersonic and if I plant my foot flat to the floor and lift it off before it comes on boost (3,000rpm) then the bov will let out a nice fluttering noise

It's a Prof Sheepdog one :D
And yes, the more flutter from the pod is also due to the fact that there's nothing there to restrict the sound.

Dude, it's not the BOV, it's because there's not enough boost to open the BOV and the air comes back out the intake.....

No, no, they aren't particularly common, and they rock paricularly hard ;)
Yeha, it's a jap one. Good luck finding one, it's hard. My mate with an R32 was very jealous :P
