I got my filthy little hands on another CA18 and am planning a rebuild. Im after a turbo that will bolt up to my standard manifold.(CA18DET) I want the biggest dam turbo I can fit in the "low mount position" does anyone happen to know what will fit. I know I will need a new dump pipe and the exhaust is already three inch Cat back. The car is currently a turbo and I have a front mount so there are no problems with more BOOST. I just want to have a stock lookin engine that will haul ass!

I have a s14 t28 on my ca 180sx, it was tight getting it in there, but there is some more room, Id say a GT28 would fit.

Were there any mods needed to the exhaust or was it a straight bolt up? Cause i got a qoute to make up a new dump pipe and they said bout $250 cause there is not much room to work with and its time consuming.

I know for sure that a GT28 (and I think even a T28 BB) turbo will fit onto the manifold without only a small adapter plate to make it fit.

They said its around the same size as a t28 but you need a conversion plate to bolt up to the standard manifold. $220 he quoted me. may as well get a s14 t28 /gtir t28 cheaper less hassles.

i got the vg30 turbo off a mate of mine he was going to put it on his tx3 i dont know much about the specs on them no body seems to know but it did work well on my ca18det i had to get an adapter plate made up for it to bolt onto my stock manifold and a new dump pipe made it held a constant 14 psi for me but it was a bit laggy.

I was talkin to a mate today who has done the same VG30 turbo upgrade on a CA18 EXA and he said the same thing 14-16psi and heaps of lag.
The new pistons are in and the head will be back on tuesday so i kinda need to make a desision soon. Anyone got any feed back on the T28 set up.

mate has the CA18DET in his 1200 ute.

had the gt28, (around 360hp rated, standard t28 inlet..etc) maxed out at 180+kw @ wheels before needing GTR injectors. needed to mod the oil lines slightly for turbo install.

now moving on to the gt28 with the 4" inlet. which needs a plate made up for the manifold. still has the .64 exhaust. dont reccomend going the larger size (0.86?), thats where you will have your lagg, even on the sr.

he has no problems with lagg..very light car. also has a haltec now, which helps. with the haltec and injectors, the turbo maxed out at 270hp@wheels.

I've done the CA18det t25 --> t28 conversion. Its pretty straight forward, you shouldn't need a new dump pipe, but you might have to drill out 1 or 2 bolt holes to make it line up.

Im goin with the T28 conversion now. What was the T28 that you used off originaly? Im also goin the RB20 injector swap as I now have a motec ECU to use so why not! Ant body know of better injectors than these. Im aimin to make 150-170 @ the wheels. Its posible cause the Engine im runnin now has 120 only with an exhaust, motec and 14psi.
