I just tried to install a boost gauge, the only prob is that it's registering a vacuum constantly (even on boost). I tapped into the medium-sized line just behind the throttle body, but i'm beginnning to think it was the wrong one.....

im unsure with a CA on where to plug it~

had similar problem, it turned out to be a loose/leaking pipe
check that the lines arent restricted?
boost guage functioning properly?
does it (needle) reach past the vacuum and onto boost even for a little bit?
the boost only comes on when your driving the car (under load), not stationary~

10 psi? thats a tad bit high, if you have stock,no mod etc, it should be like 7 ish (factory standard etc)

does your guage read in bar? psi? kg/cm2 etc?

It just reads in psi... But from what i've read, the stock boost for a CA18DET is .7bar which is ~ 10psi...

heheh or maybe you got it other way around??
does your guage spike upto 10psi???

0.7 bar = 10.15264 psi

7 psi = 0.482633 bar

10psi = 0.6894757bar

i lost sume where in these #'s

yeh same problem as mine, spikes to like . 7kgcm2,what boost guage comes in this reading, (~10psi) on 2nd and 3rd gear then drops gradually down to .6 to .5 kgcm2 (~7-8.5 psi), i need to start lookin at a bleed valve of somesort

Yeah, mine drops off too :(

I just bought a turbosmart single stage controller off nissan97t. Installing it tomorrow :D I'm still trying to decide whether to leave it as the dual-ish stage design (stock boost or custom level at the flick of a missile switch), or just set it up like he had it constantly at a custom boost level.

Sadly, I think the actuator must have a factory set bleed amount, so even with the stock solenoid out of the loop completely and the boost controller off, it's still running about spiking and running about 8 psi :(

I think the auto box might be causeing ti to spike even worse, becuase you cant control the load on the turbo, but ahh well, I'll wait till it's manaual and see if it makes a difference...

You can get different actuators or modify your existing one if you really want lower boost than 7-8psi (why?). Or you could change the length of the wastegate arm.

Edit: sorry I just realised you were complaining about the spiking not the boost level.

Yeah, there is that. The reason I want to lower the boost is so I can have better fuel economy or switch my boost controller on to give me better 1/4's. I'll show you my install next time I see you bud :P
