I got a question i would like to ask to make sure that i am correct in my thinking.

I own a Silvia with an SR20DE engine and i would like to know what turbo would be the best to fit this engine i reckon a T28 Garret but i what i would like to know is can i do that without changing and engine internals or do i have to change my internals and if so what would i have to change and finally i would like some prices on how much this is going to cost.

Thanks
R.S

it should go ok on the stock block. you'll need a manifold, intercooler, det ecu, probably some det injectors, oil + water lines, exhaust setup from the dump, piping, maybe a bigger fuel pump, bov if u want one.

if you run low boost id say it'd be ok. dumhead i believe has an n/a s14 engine with a turbo bolted on. hopefully he can help more

i looked down this path before and was told for the cost saving it wasnt worth doing unless you already had most of the add on parts required
turbo, dump pipe you would also need a custom manafold to be made but i heard you can just flip the stock DE one around and it will work you would also need intake piping cooler new zuast

Mayhem converted his CADE to a SR20DET for around $7000 it was done at HILLS since you already have a SR20DE you should be able to sell the motor and gear box out of your car to get some return on the cost of the conversion a guestamation would be around $1000

as for the parts bolting on it's pretty easy. all the stock DET stuff goes straight on, but the hard bit is making up all the oil / coolant lines that normally go into specially machined fittings in the block, which are not in the na engine.

I drilled and tapped the necessary parts, and made up an oil feed from the oil pressure sender position to avoid drilling the oil gallery - which would require pulling the engine apart and cleaning everything.

You can buy splitters from the states too, which means you only have to tap the block for the coolant return lines, the oil tap takes it off somewhere else im not sure i will have to look into it!

yeah it's easy to take the oil feed from the filter block assembly, where the pressure sensor is, but the hard part in the SR is the oil return, which needs to be drilled into the crank case. Doing that requires taking off the sump and alloy oil pan section and cleaning out the engine thoroughly.
There's nowhere else to put an oil return that'll work properly.

a less fiddly method is to go to Earls plumbing and get some braided water and oil lines made up. (with banjos included) so no mods to the block needed.
ive replaced my standard oil and water lines with these. the benefit of the Earls lines is that they are flexible and can be manipulated to the right shape and angle.

so how do you do the oil return?
It has to go back into the block somewhere, and the only place that isn't too high, or too close to the oil pickup is where the stock one goes.

To use that you have to drill it and install a fitting.

you've never looked hard enough :)

They didn't sell the n/a S14 or 15 here, but in Japan they did.
