Post subject:  Need up to 300rwhp

I got:

1990 CA180DET with
Unknown ECU (defenitely good for 300hp)
Greddy Turbo timer
3" exhaust will go on with turbo
New cooler + radiator to be installed
High flow cone air filter

No engine internals modified yet.

Apart from engine:
G4 coilovers
GTR Breaks
Short Shift in mail

Two questions:
1 Do i need to modify fuel line? what to? (e.g. pump, injectors, filter, etc...)

2 Still deciding on turbo - GT28RS vs. GT2560R both BB looking for A/R52 0.64

Any other suggestions on the setup...? :-?

Welcome to the forum.

my first suggestion would be that you make use of the search function.

there have been several big dollar CA18DET buildups on here over the years. some have even made the same power as mildly modified SR20's! read all you can,and if you don't find answers to your questions, post back and someone may be willing to answer them.

Thanks God, (I never thought I would say that in a forum)

I got the SEARCH idea in the first pace. After few hours online got many ideas on what other ppl did. Good for reference - not much relevant to my setup.

I guess I could use method of scientific try-n-error as well... :o

Will post results/picks when finished

if you want 300hp you will need bigger injectors and a bigger fuel pump.

I got GTR injectors (440cc i think) and Bosch 040 pump

BTW the ECU is standard with Gizzmo chip - tuneable with SAFC (will need to find one for CA18)

looking for Boost control. Electronic. Heard PowerFC is popular and can get one cheap. However thinking of GReddy PRofec B-Spec II.

if you know anyone looking to sell - PM me

Also somehow clutch fluid bottle lid's gone!!?? I open a bonnet one day and it's not there!!! Mistery.... WTF. so i'm using bath tub drain plug till find a proper one. it holds on a rubber bend perfect :)

first off - ditch the gizzmo chip if your serious about 300hp and use a power fc. easily tuned and much more versatile plus easily ran with a Z32 airflow metre (80mm)

secondly ditch the gtr injectors and try getting hold of some 550cc injectors to give you a bit more head room

profec B II - aewsome controller for how cheap they are these days

you didnt mention if you have an aftermarket clutch so im guessing you'll need something with a bit more bite

aftermarket radiator - standard one would be fine or maybe pick up a cheap s14/s15 one or install some thermo fans if your planning on hitting the track

back to the main point - GT28RS or perhaps a 2871r

I talked to couple mechanics - can still piggy back gizzmo chipped ecu apparently.

I'm getting bigger aftermarket radiator + fans, together with cooler - still deciding where from. car overheats after a bit of boosting :D

I was gonna change the topic to

GT28RS or perhaps a 2871r

But due to cut in the budget and impatience got s15 turbo for now. with aftermarket dump pipe and manifold will push it as far as. I got time not money. will be doing it myself by the looks of things. :-?

mate told me someone did 226KW with similar setup and STANDARD ECU remapped!!!
Z32 AFM - hmmm... didn't think about that.

Should b sweet with that Boost Control and piggy back. Will see about the clutch later
Thanks for advice - good help.

remapping of standard ECU is not cheap too.

A guy in unigroup said it will cost 1k+ to install a daughter board and tune it. As I understand tuning stock ECUs takes much longer than tuning PFC, so the price would be pretty much the same.

Main advantage of PFC is that later on you will still be able to sell it and get decent money back, while stock ECU with chip wont cost that much...

I think pretty much everyone can tune PFC while chips are less common.

PFC has much more features I'm not sure if you need them or not.

Stock ECU has better idle from what I've heard, but I wouldn't know really...

On the other hand I wonder if SAFC can handle slightly bigger injectors, as it's much cheaper alternative.

personal opinion dude, steer clear of piggyback systems. especially when stand alone ecu's are getting quite cheap

even look towards a Q45 AFM as im pretty sure they'r 90mm compared to a Z32 80mm...depends on how big the piping is you'll use i guess

if your still running a standard clutch i cant imagine it lasting long if your chasing over 200kw to start with

and lastly the greatest advice i can give considering your situation and project- learn patience-it'll save you both money and a dodgy setup

Out of curiousity what is the purpose of your car?
With a CA i'd probably stick to a slightly lower goal and be quite happy with it. Cheaper and more reliable and just as much fun. People always think they need way more than they really need and it sounds like you are new to this so it's worth thinking about your real aims.
