In this thread I think it's important that people differntiate between Hybrid the workshop (which personally I'd never use) and the Hybrid intercooler (kit) which personally I think is a fantastic deal.

Qik - the only reason you use C&V is because you're an idiot!!

I agree, the hybrid intercoolers are quite good.

Spearco cores would be one of the best on the market.

Apexi cores are up there as well.

at the end of the day these people are going to see you what they can get, and what they can make $$ on.

greddy and HKS work well, but I dont like their weak fin design. It is easily damaged and does not last long.

I would never suggest to anyone a hybrid or PWR core. No offence if you sell them, that is your choice personally or from a business.

The Hybrid is technically a bar and plate core design (as the bars and plates are fused together) but internal fins are a lot different to the original bar and plate. The hybride has more of a tube and fin type internal design, like PWR's latest core. This is why they dont have the reputation of a true, bar and plate core. If anything they are lwoing the standard and quality of what we have acess to.

I think performance shops and on line stores in australia are taking away the real meaning of performance modifications.

5 and 10 years ago it was about engineering.

These days it is about who has the biggest discount, buy and sell. A middle man if you will.

Bolting shit on in my books isnt modifying a car.

It is accessorising a car.

Rice if you will.

You sound the sore loser who didn't change his business with market trends, and try to make money from ripping people off....

Those products serve the purpose for the end result of making your car produce more power, handle better or stop better. The engineering R&D (hard part) has already been done by the people who've designed these kits, or used various products in the past.

One advantage of buying a common car I guess, like the S15, people have done it all before you, and you can benefit from that experience...

Who me???

I am not a business!

Sounds like you have not had the chance to use anything different except for off the shelf, bolt on stuff. It is all good and well to research a price but how many of us actually research a product?

Just sharing my experience which extends over 10 years.

You could see an advantage with buying a common car if you will. Have you ever noticed that pretty much all serious SR series engine are not using off the shelf intercooler kits, manifolds, etc.

You sound like a business getting up set because he uses off the shelf kits, has no real knowledge about tuning a car, engineering etc. Just buy, add margin and sell to what is cheap,or easy to sell. A middle man if you will. Parts peddler. I commonly call this type of person a REPCO agent.

Most true enthusiast would appreciate my comment, broadening their aspect of tuning and making their car go better then the guys next to him....not slag it off.

Modifying a car to go fast isn't about how much money you can spend! If it were we would be driving something faster and would not have the need to modify?

I certainly agree from benefiting from other people's experience and this is the whole reason why I posted what I posted, to share what I have learnt, the hard and expensive way. This is obviously something that you, nor one of these companies (resellers, middle med, repco agents whatever) or rip off (in your own words) will ever know or learn....

Sitting behind a computer with a desk full of HKS, apexi, greddy catalogues doesn't make you an expert... Far from it. What does it teach you? Nothing except for reciting what the catalogue says! I call this a parrot or parroting if there are multiples.

So, I guess Mr. Peterd logs onto his local favorite online store to spend some good cash. Say $8K on his S15 net result at the wheels 200 if he is lucky.

Here I am spending the same amount, but my car will break traction in 4th gear and pull 122mph down the 1/4.

That my friend is the difference between you and me and why you are further behind the 8 ball then what you think.

well a few hundred can get you a manfold, or part of the way to a set of cams, or a whole heap of dyno tuning.

Depends if you want value or not really...

I agree with this IF you are comparing apples with apples.

But we are not

So what am I doing wrong? I rather have the 122mph trap speed than 110mph, and break traction in 4th rather than 2nd.

Assuming I have already spent the 8k on off the shelf parts, what else is needed?

I guess in not included in that 8k is cost of labour?

And its a bit of double edged sword isnt it?....you either go with the common stuff thats built by well known companies or you go out on a limb and have it engineered and built by a specialist company.

For the majority of people.....it will always go with the most well known brand. Not neccessarily the best but i guess thats why the companies spend the big bucks on marketing.
