Hi guys/gals jst wanted to find out some info:
Does the GT2876R fit on an s15 (direct bolt on)
and how come its cheaper then the GT2871R
Thanks.

i have one on my s13 sr20det
put out 230rwkw with bolt ons and management.

unsure if it bolts up as i have aftermarket manifold

i'm heading to the dyno tomorrow morning. if all goes well i can tell u what they are good for. ppl max out between 230-250rwkw's, even with cams.

the 2871 is probably better choice, may have less lag and same power abilities.

some guy on ns.com said that the compressor wheel is too large on the 2876 for it to be turned with enough torque from the exhaust wheel. not sure exactly what that means, but for its mammoth size you would expect more than 250rwkw's

its a 450hp turbo and designed for twin turbo sequential setups

What he means is that ideally you'd want the turbine and compressor to be of similar size. In the GT2876R the size difference is approximately 1.45:1 which is pretty large = extra lag. The GT2876R would probably make no more power than the GT2871R and be laggier at doing it.

^^^ what he said.
my 2876r maxed out at 230rwkw. 2871's can make the same power

i spoke to colin at ricol about it, he said that there isnt a huge difference in lag or power between the two, but i'd be keeno to give the 2871 a go, or maybe a hsk 2530 / 2540

actually my mates mate has a s15 with a 2871 and apparently it's great, not much lag and good for lots of power

The HKS 2540 is a GT2876R with a different front housing.. so yeah don't change to that one!

because the 2876 is a true lump of a turbo.

Regarding the torque question, what you are trying to do is spin a 76mm wheel capable of making maybe 300rwkw worth or air (consider it's an old t04s 7 blade wheel not the newer 6 blade which can make much more)

Typically these are paired with 60mm gt30 or older t3 turbines and work well enough.

What you are trying to do is spin it with a 53mm turbine, which in addition is teamed up with a very restrictive turbine housing.

What that means is that 1) small turbine struggles to get the compressor spinning enough to make significant airflow so it's laggier than a better matched combo 2) Once it does get spinning the turbine can't pass anywhere near what the compressor can flow and it starts to choke on it's own exhaust so your peak power suffers.

Id be surprised if it can make more than what a 2871 can make without having an external gate added, and it would be laggier to boot.
Also consider that a 52 trim 2871 has both the newer 6 blade type compressor and the ns111 turbine which is a very nice thing.

both tmb and blacksx on this forum have made better than 250rwkw with hks gtrs's which are near enough to identical to a garrett 52t 2871.
