yeah, but you can run a larger compressor and use the excess air for the engine.

Anyone got a picture I am having trouble visualising this one...

A jet engine, with excess air from the compressor stage being fed into a piston engine for forced induction.

uh huh, yeah maybe not all that practical :)

something a bit more practical/realistic would be to use the air compressor to pump some air in the exhaust housing along with some fuel for alot more exhaust energy. minimal overlap of intake and exhaust would be needed. very similar to an anti lag setup

CO2 would work even better (this is actually how heaps of people start turbine engines) but firing cold CO2 or compressed air into a hot turbine will cause a lot of thermal shock.

could almost use a seperate sealed wheel that goes between the turbine and the bearing area, and spin that with the air. Would require less air if it was a small wheel in a small housing.

assuming you could somehow get enough compressed air to turn a turbo enough to make significant boost... why don't you just chuck out the turbo and push the compressed air straight into the motor? Seems much simpler to me. You could of course just use NOS instead.

because you wouldn't get any mechanical advantage... You are hopefully going to pump more air then you are going to use.

You could always use a second turbo and replace the turbine with an electric motor...

An air compressor has a high discharge pressure but not high enough volume of air to get the turbo spnning fast enough you'd have to have 2 or three hooked up or have some other configuration if u wanted it 2 work
as for electric supercharges there a waste of money i know i bought 1
if any 1 has a go with this let me know wat results u get

Not all electric superchargers are a waste of time. Some of those roots blowers that are electrically driven are quite good.

Why would you bother with a setup with so much weight, and having an extra fuel sorce (air compressor of some sort) would just not be ideal.

Sure more turbine spin = more boost etc, but a turbo already uses wasted exhaust from the engine.
The only option i could see would be to run the turbine off some electric motor for the first few thousand rpm- before the exhausts gas comes to spool the turbo. But then electrical components in the turbo would fry.

Another option is to run a twinturbo setup, 1turbo being an electric turbo, other being a conventional- then you would always have boost.

I mean, there is another option such as superchargers- running directly from the crank. It follows the same concept as a turbo (being both compressors).
I say run the turbo like a supercharger off the crank, and somehow disconnect it for the exhaust gas to take over.

But all these setups add too much weight imo- and power-to-weight ratio is what counts really.

what i would do is not bump a 6 month old thread :P
