Plain bearing T28 will break 200rwkw with cams, doesn't need rediculous boost to do it either.
It sounds like your tuner has a dyno that 'reads low' or that your tuner isn't worth his salt.
Step 1 cams will likely increase your power everywhere, SR stock cams are mild things.
You pretty much can't waste your money with cams on an SR, either you'll get them and not a turbo and love it. Or you'll get them and they'll complement a larger turbo very well.
Either way WELL worth it from all accounts.

well had a chat to bloke who tunes my car he seems to think the car will lose low end with the cams, he advised me to just go bigger turbo.

Does you tuner think you won't lose low end by putting a bigger turbo on it?
You WILL lose some bottom end (ie below 2000rpm) if you install cams, but it will certainly be worth it due to the massive mid and top end increases cams give you

he seems to think the disco & gt2530 rated at 320hp wont do 200rwkw ? t28 is rated 280 currently doing 170wrkw @16psi (conservative dont think he wants to push it to much blow up mates car you know)

He obviously has no real experience with modifying SR20DET's. There are so many of these engines making a reliable 200rwkw with these turbos it isn't funny. Its almost a case of if you don't get an easy 200rwkw, you have problems somewhere. My gt2530 made over 200rwkw at about 11psi!

he wants me to get a 400+hp turbo.

Don't

Tiop wrote:
the disco and gt2530 see fullboost at 3200ish on stockish sr20 with good response ? can anyone comment with experience ?

I get 18psi around that mark. If you are running less boost it will hit full boost earlier. I find mine make too much power too early at wakefield. It makes the thing a real handful coming out of corners.

Id like to go the gt2530 maybe the disco but to much conflicting ideas.

Just ignore any ideas that conflict with mine and you will be fine

the cams are fairly cheap $500ish but he seem to think iam wasting money and wont get what i want from them, garretts gt2530 is $1200 but i think that is smaller, what i understand is disco almost the same as hks 2530

The only place you would be wasting money is getting your car tuned by this guy. Cams are awesome bang for buck modification. If you can afford both them and a disco, you will end up with a big smile on your face for a long time

TMB is spot on though, cams + 2530/disco is a great combo

well it is settled, ill go with the cams and turbo suggestions.

I cant bad mouth the bloke doing my car, as the tuning is free, install was free and the sm4 was almost cost price.

The bloke tunning my car has only done 1 sr20det before. hes done a heaps of wrx (few with 300rwkw), rb powered cars, and v8's.

Thanks guys for all the help.

 good call

cams first and a bit more boost, if that doesnt do it, then add the turbo. 200 is very doable with that turbo especially with cams.

I have done some reading on certain turbos and want peoples opinion i have been looking at HKS and these 25-30, 2535, 28-35. I am after something different i don't want the over rated GTRS looking at 400hp turbos that respond well and comes on early ( under 4000rpm) any stats are more than welcome and personal experience, and your thoughts on HKS vs Garrett. This is for a s15 that will be a street track project thingy

GT2871R...these punch on the same level as a GTRS pretty much
