Hey guys and gals I'm new to these forums. I just want to hear your opinions on the turbo I have currently got on my S13 Redtop (No NVCS) It's currently going through a motor transplant so I have never started it yet...

Just wondering if you guys think of the turbo, and if anyone has any experience with it, when does it spool up to full boost?? Im just worried that it will be way too laggy.

Garrett T3/T4 Hybrid
A/R. 60
Rated 450hp

Other Engine Mods:
Power FC
Gizzmo Electronic Boost Controller
Stainless Manifold
38mm External Wastegate
Exedy 5 Puck Brass Button Clutch
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Turbosmart Stage 3 BOV
Tomei Rocker Arm Stoppers
Intercooler
Battery Moved to Boot

On the way are:
Z32 AFM
Sard 850cc injectors
Walbro Fuel Pump

Im thinking that the EBC will help to spool it marginally faster, Ideally I would like fulll boost at around 4000-4500 Rpm, do you think this turbo would make this???

heres a pic

thanks for the help :D

We're going to need more info. All you've given is the compressor housing A/R and there's a lot more to it than that. Compressor and turbine major diameter and trim and exhaust housing A/R as a minimum. Old t3/4s are usually something like 76.x mm turbine in either a T04e or s wheel and 60mm or so turbine. For an sr you should run a .63 turbine housing.

T3/4 is typically old school so I can confidently say that you will get better results from a current generation 3071 or 3076 which are around the same size (depending on the version of the T3/4 obviously). You will have a ball bearing core vs bush in the t3/4 for a start as well as new generation wheels.

Agree with BHD a newer turbo of the same size will be far more efficient due to the ball bearing construction.

look familiar? It's probably the closest thing you'll find based on the info you've given. The front cover looks to be a .6 aswell.

As it's an old number the garrett site is useless.

So assuming it's a t04e based thing you may expect around 250 odd rwkw but it won't really do much below 4500rpm. You're better off with a 2871 for those numbers with much better response, or a 3071 for higher peak output with better response.

I'm assuming the rear end is a .63 a/r too. If it's bigger expect more lag.

Probably the GT3071R would be closer since it has the T3 turbine housing. If it is the same unit as the one BHD linked it appears to have no water cooling either.

Water cooling is for girls (and girly boys who have bb turbos).
