For those people pushing 220rwkw+, with aftermarket cams + turbo, is there any head porting and polishing done?

I dont hear of it mentioned that often, but wouldnt its bang for buck value deem it as essential especially at this power level?

yep ported and polished head here

Hahaha, the above line brings a grin to my face.

Anything over 1.3 bar and above with the GT-RS, you will find it difficult to hold that boost. Let us know if you end up going an external wastegate or something.

I know it won't hold till redline, but the previous owner ran up to 28psi through the midrange and boost dropped to about 20 at redline. I'll be happy with that :D

you'll def need cams for ~220rwkw..

that turbo and that setup (with cams) should get u a nice reliable 220rwkw at not crazy boost levels.. i know that the GT28RS comes in two A/R sizes tho, but i cant remember which one is for bigger power.. maybe the .86? (how good is my memory? someone correct me if i'm wrong)

From what I have read so far the .86 does produce more power at the cost of low end. With the .64 anyone know when it should come on boost?

TMB, congrats on the green goblin - i didnt know u were the new owner! 8)

182Go, i'd think that the .64 would have close to stock response, but with a much stronger top end.. i dont know if it'd stretch to 220rwkw tho, from what i've read i think it is more comparable to something like an S15 turbo, as in its comfortable to around the 200-210rwkw mark on about 1-1.1bar...

again, someone correct me if i'm wrong!! i did research on these turbos at the beginning of the year and im stretching my memory here!

The disco potato (GT28RS) has both larger comp wheel and turbine, and the turbine is a much more modern and better flowing design.

You can get them to 220rwkw, but it will take decent boost to do it (ie 1.2bar)

Is there really that much difference between 200 and 220 rwkw at the end of the day?

Im asking as i dont know, not making a stab at people aiming for certain power figures.

there's not much difference between 60rwkw and 220rwkw a lot of the time :)

I'm considering external gating my GTRS in the new year. This will hopefully reduce the boost drop off at high revs. Or may change to a 3037 Pro S 0.68 A/R internal gate low mount configuration if desired results cannot be achieved with the current set up.

I would not recommend the 2871 with 0.86 A/R for everyday driving. It will make the top end great power but there is no midrange response.

TMB,

Is the Green Goglin still going strong ? Will it be used for what the original owner built it for?

If I was looking for bragging rights there would be a 3 in front of the 20 :D I just figured this would be a target figure that would give me enough jollys with good reliability. I won't loose sleep if I dont make 220 but I figure with planned mods I should come some where in the ball park.

Well, yes and no. Its still going, but the previous owner had a monkey do the tuning on it, and he messed up the cam timing and tune in a big way, (ie set it to 4 deg retard on intake cam and 6 deg retard on the exhaust cam :o) so i've set the cams back to 0 for now and reset the pfc to base map, which has improved the drivability dramatically.
I'll road tune it in the next couple of days, then get it to a dyno

I don't plan on having it in a workshop fixing stuff for 50% of its life like the original owner 8)
The idea is primary twisties work, also drift and some circuit work

LOL

Green Goblin = money pit.

Oh yes 20rwkw, or roughly 27HP - you can definitely feel the difference.

yeah you can feel the 20rwkw, but in the real world there's not a lot most people can do with it, except in a straight line.

Sorry to come back to the subject but.... Is there any tutorials around that explain how the trim, A/R, etc effect things and what each of them does? Maybe something on comparing two turbo based on the dimensions?
