180Go: I think you are talking stupid talk again...

You will end up with this kick-ass turbo good for 330rwkw etc, and a bottom end that won't take any more power than a 2871 can flow

All you will gain from it is a less streetable combination

I do know that you will end up doing the opposite of what is recommended, so to save me time later on when you post that you bought the 3071 and it doesn't suit your setup, i'll just say it now: I told you so... :-?

also i second what TMB said. really, how much did you end up getting out of your current turbo ??

if you havent gotten all of the potential out of the current turbo, you cant really dismiss it yet and cant make a proper decision as to whether you need another turbo or not

I guess to a certain degree the choice is going to be dictacted by availability, but thanks for the info anyway, I might see if those T3 int gate are available here.

Broken dictates I need a new one, from all I have seen and read the 3071 isn't that much bigger but flows better than the 2871. I am just trying to tweak the combo to suit the engine I now have.

I plan to pull the engine down sleave it, forgies, rods ect down the track anyway. I am just trying to make the best of some bad choices.

TMB: Noted that you said it was a bad idea. :)

If the 3071 has the T3 wheel in the T28 housing wouldn't that be better than the T28 wheel in a T28 housing?

Unfortunately time isn't on my side I have to get back to work as soon as possible I am already a few days late waiting for that radiator. (BTW I got the standard replacement PWR 40mm radiator)

If the wheels aren't buggered, then its rebuildable.

But if is it buggered, then i'll take it to pull apart for fun!

definately rebuildable it is running great (no noises at all) other than shit loads of smoke. Time says I need a new one, would be nice to be able to compare and then maybe sell the one I dont want.

Nope. The problem is that the turbine has to be cropped (to about the size of a t28 wheel) to fit in the housing which is far from an ideal solution. Then the housing is bored out slightly to suit.

So you end up with a not quite t3 exhaust wheel in a highflowed housing (which has effects on the speed and angle of the incoming exhaust gas). Not a very good solution.

The proper t3 internal gate housing removes these problems. It's something a lot of skyline guys have been waiting for so that they have have a proper bolt on solution rather than having to machine the stock rear housing to fit a GT30/35 style cartridge.

I decided last night after I logged off to take TMBs advice and stick with the 2871series.

I took it down to TMQ just before and I think we found the source of the problem. Some dickhead (and I wont point otherwise I might take my eye out) made a temporary catch can and didn't leave sufficient venting, and so it pressurised the seals.

Apperently it will take a while to clear all the oil. Gotta go big drive ahead of me.

If I went external gate what external gate should I buy considering cost / performance?

have a read of this thread, particularly the post by sydneykid. this should help you determine the size you need, then its a matter of brand choice. i wouldnt bother with a fake cheapy some people are having problems with them, surprise surprise. any of the brand name ones should do the job.

Looks like a 38mm would be more than enough for most of the SRs. I am having yet another manifold made by Liverpool and I am seriously considering going external wastegate this time around. Found Tial 38mm on ebay for $379 if I go with a HKS or simular actuator I am probably looking at $140 so not a lot of money difference for a more accurate wastegate.

Also was thinking of making this one T3 flange and maybe get an adaptor back to T28.

Oh FFS would you just buy a bloody stainless lowmount manifold already! You have now spent over 2k on manifolds that you were specifically told by knowledgable people NOT to buy. Cut your losses now. You will never look back

Can you not do anything normal? Why would you bother with an adapter? Just put a t25 flange on now, and if you have another brainfart later on and decide you need a T3 flange turbo, then lop the t28 flange off and get a t3 flange welded on...

For the amount of money invested into custom manifolds, why not try the usual cheaper lowmount stainless like everyone else uses, and see why they are popular.

Might as well, since this is your...3rd custom manifold?

all i can say is i wish i had the money that 182go has spent on pointless parts and bad choices , shame my onevia on a budget is making more power than his
