yep, definitely - but if he already has the setup for the high mount GT30 style turbo he can just bolt on the 3071 pretty easily.

You might be able to get a custom low mount to work however keep in mind it's a T3 flange and external gate. Realistically it has to be high mounted

really urgent advice required...

I started the car to drive home and tons of white smoke is coming out of the exhaust and oil is pouring out of the tiny holes in the dump pipe. Checked the plugs they are clean. So I need to change the turbo tomorrow to get home.

I am thinking about the GT3071R mention at the begining of this topic (T25 style exhaust flange). I can change to a T3 flange without too much hassle but I cant afford an external waste gate at this time, also I would prefer not to mod the dump pipe again.

Do I buy another GT2871R or try the GT3071R with the T25 flange?

Checked your oil return line? Your turbo shouldn't have crapped itself already

should be fine, has one of the big alloy outlets from GCG, 5/8 ID hose which drops straight into the factory fitting.

Used a proper oil resistant hose but probably worth pulling it off and having a look just in case.

Apparently the internal gated version of the 3071 isn't particularly good. You either need to run the proper external version, or get another 2871

You need to decide how much power you REALISTICALLY want, then we can recommend a solution

I still need more than I have, that is why I was contemplating the GT3071R, but I dont want to go so big that it turns into an absolute pig.
I think a tiny bit bigger is about as much as I am prepared to trade off.

I was also thinking the 3071 might be better suited to the cams, port work, ehaust manifold I have. If I went external gate what external gate should I buy considering cost / performance?

Your turbo is capable of 250+rwkw. If you aren't making that yet, then the 2871 is not too small for you

have a read of this thread, particularly the post by sydneykid. this should help you determine the size you need, then its a matter of brand choice. i wouldnt bother with a fake cheapy some people are having problems with them, surprise surprise. any of the brand name ones should do the job.
