1:45's round the creek, 6's around wakefield. It hasn't been set up for the track or run on slicks yet and in current config should be able to take 5-6 seconds of the creek times and 3-4 off the wakefield ones. So I wouldn't say that it's the quickest 200sx in the country yet however the potential for it to be is there.

3-4 off the wakefield

OMG,

I agree with the 5 to 6 sec off the EC lap times but 3 to 4 sec off a 1.06 around wakefield could be a tall order. You would have to pick-up 10 to 12 kph everywhere to achieve a 1.02.

Keep in mind it was done on standard brakes with crap pads (on the brakes at the start/finish line) with a crap suspension setup and the car only ran half a day. 3-4 seems fair

I reckon 3-4 off will be no problem at wakefield once the setup is right :)

nowhere near as much rear grip as it should have (running very little negative camber, and front swaybar is soft while the rear is hard)

There's heaps of tweaking to be done of the damper settings still too.

At the moment there are a few things needing ironing out to get it to drive smoothly out of corners too.
Darren's used to it so he didn't mind too much, but I do a lot of steering with the throttle - and there's a huge dead spot right where I like to feed on the power in a corner, due to the BOV opening very early in the off boost to on boost transition and messing up the mixtures.

I always ended up having too little power or two much power, but never the right amount - so it was very much a case of waiting till the car was straight enough for full power, then planting it. It's still fun, but not as satisfying or as fast as being able to drive the whole track smoothly.

If we iron out the bugs, sort out the suspension 100%, and get some slicks on it we'll be chasing V8 supercar times.

There's also a lot more time left in the drivers :)
Darren hadn't driven "grip" style for quite a while, and that was the first time I've driven that car on the track.

have you dropped the cars weight ? if so how much have you managed to get it down to

sounds like a killer setup, alot of big claims being made. how street friendly is the car ?

the weight has been reduced a fair bit.
We'll have a final value once the full cage is done, and we get some lightweight panels on.

It's not very street friendly, although I did drive it for a few hours yesterday going to and from tuning, etc.
No door windows, no interior, twin plate clutch, dog box, 2 way diff, external wastegate, etc makes it not very practical on the street, but the engine itself is very streetable.
Even the clutch and gearbox are remarkably drivable.

The main issue with street driving is that it draws that little bit too much attention!

do you guys have an aim for the weight ?

yeah i mainly meant the engine itself. thats interesting you say that, because i know your not one to like lag on a street car, and this engine runs a relatively large turbo !

interesting that your running a 2way, this is primarily a circuit car isnt it ? i would have thought a 1.5way would have been more suitable

It's a Nismo 2 way, so it's not as "2 way" as some, but it's still pretty rough in low speed cornering.

Although it's built with circuit use in mind, it is primarily a drift car, and the only serious competition it's in is DA.
Later on we'll get it in some more circuit stuff.

The engine is laggier than my n/a turbo setup was, but because of the good off boost grunt and the car's light weight it's actually very quick to drive even at low revs and doesn't really ever get caught without power - unlike the traditional low compression, big boost setups.

The target weight is under 1000kg, but whether or not it gets there depends on how many panels we change, how big the brakes are, and how extensive the cage ends up being.

you could have seen it on TV last weekend, or you could see it in person at Eastern Creek this weekend.

I'm interested to see how the GT3071R (GT30 rear) turns out. I'm considering dropping my T518z for one of these but the only thing thats scaring me off is a new manifold + ext gate. I quite like the fact that on the T518z I can still use the stock manifold/heat shield so its the ultimate sleeper when people pop the bonnet! Maybe the Tomei B8446 might be worthy. A Frankenstien turbo that one is...
