i was wondering wat type of HP could you get out of a S15 turbo on a Ca18det? my current mods only include:
- HKS turbo muffler
- 3 inch cat back exhaust
im planning on also getting a FMIC, BOV and a bit later changing the spark plugs and leads, new cams and a pod filter. any help!!!!

the s15 turbo should max out at around 210-220rwkw if you have the sufficient modifications, including fuel support.

Wouldn't that be on an SR though?

I've seen a few CA's with s15 turbos running around the 170-180 mark.

the amount of power a turbo makes depends on the turbo.

As long as there is enough exhaust to drive the turbo, and you shove in enough amount of air and fuel into the engine, a CA is capable of producing the same power level.

The new cams will help, maybe some head work wont go astray either.

Reliability and flexibility are different matters however, but since the dude only asked about power..

having a best mate with a ca and a s15 BB turbo with cooler and full exhaust.

i can say on stock boost these things fly. im an sr owner and believe more in ca's because of that car.. AND OLNLY ON STOCK BOOST!!!

you should invest in a proper exhaust system with minimal restriction and some cooling options.

see Ricol automotive about a dyno run which will indicate a safe boost level for you to run. ca18 is a extremely well designed engine because of its shim and bucket setup. DONT GIVE UP ON IT. ca's are only known to be problematic because of their age. maintain it and invest in a ECU, 180 RWKW easilly obtained if ur gear is in good order.

goodluck with it champ.

beating fools is twice as fun usin the engine they turned their backs on.

peace~

jaydee

(no offense intended to sr owners, i am one - fantastic engine i just love the specific technology used in ca engines... and getting to laugh at ignorant fools)

The amount of power a turbo can produce is dependant on the volumetric efficiency of the entire setup. SR's are much more efficient an air pump than the CA is

To get the 210rwkw out of an S15 turbo on a CA, you will need to spend ALOT of money. You will need to do significant port work, get quite large cams and run a fair bit of boost.
Also, not too many CA's can manage to hold together when running 200rwkw without major internal surgery.

As an indication, there is a member of this forum who had an S15 turbo on his CA and only managed mid 170's with something like 18psi of boost

If I ever get beaten by an internal standard CA in an S13 chassis, I will eat my SR

I think it is a testiment to the SR that the 2 CA owners on the forums that made over 150rwkw were finally convinced to turf them and go SR..

The comment from both of them was along the lines of "Why the hell did i waste so much time and money on the CA"

Neither of them have a nice word to say about CA's now

I may be one of those two.. :) .. Going from CA to SR was the best thing I could've done for my car. I spent a heap of cash on my CA - reco'd the engine with forged pistons and a heap of other things. All in all, with the SR, it does it without the hassle.

The only thing that I don't like about the SR is the location of the oil filter... a small price to pay for a great engine.
