hi guys,

just about to buy a turbo, i had my heart set on a gtrs but the supplier said that he was out but he could a really good deal on a gt2871r.

i dont know much aobut this turbo except that it has a 71mm compressor, the exhaust trims are the same so the question remains whats the spool and top end horse between the two?

i was going to purchase today so any help would be much appriecated

also im going for a low mount mainifold, tomei cams, 650cc sard injectors, walbro pump

i already have a micks metal craft fmic, turbosmart e boost, hks metal flw air filter in a cold air box

i was thinking the gtrs should give 240 rwkws

thanks guys

hlep needed!

Both are excellent turbos in their own right.

The GT28RS (disco potato) is smaller, rated at 320hp. You should get 1bar boost at about or a bit under 3000rpm. This turbo should get you 220rwkw if you have the right gear

The GT2871 is rated a bit higher at 350 or 400hp (cant remember now), but will have 1 bar more like 3500-3800. It should get you 240rwkw

These turbos can both be had in 0.64 or 0.86 exhaust housings which will affect the power curve and boost response

The GT28RS is very similar to the HKS 2530, and the GT2871 is very similar to the HKS GTRS

What type of driving do you do, and how much power are you chasing?

Wrong flange. AFAIK, disco potato are only available in t25 flange, which will require an adapter or new manifold to fit on an RB20

So worth it or not worth it? What is there for the RB20 in terms of something that will spool up really quickly and deliver heaps of boost Disco-Potato-style?

Hi there, my mate just dropped a gt2871r onto his SR20 DET pulsar.

Check out his dyno sheet below, he was in a similar situation of tossing up between teh two turbo's you're looking at and went with the 2871, using the .64 rear.

He is very happy with it and made 330hp at the rears on race fuel, and made just on 270hp on pump fuel @ 13psi!

Car is a beast for traction, ran 13 flat FWD with street tyres on PULP @ 13psi, should be a hoot with some traction and race fuel.
